Rancho Solano Preparatory School is thrilled to announce that Sofia Kamal, a senior and full IB Diploma Candidate, has been named the National Student Poet for the Southwest by the prestigious National Student Poets Program (NSPP). Sofia is one of only five high school students in the country to receive this esteemed title, recognizing her exceptional talent and unique poetic voice.
Sofia’s work, including her poem “Gas Station,” demonstrates a deep exploration of emotion and nature. Her vivid imagery and thoughtful expression helped her earn this significant national recognition. As part of her role, Sofia will represent the Southwest region and join fellow poets from across the country in readings, workshops, and community outreach to inspire others through poetry.
“We are incredibly proud of Sofia’s achievement,” said Mrs. Pamela McCarty, IB English Teacher. “Her passion and creativity are a true inspiration to our entire community.”
In addition to her new title, Sofia will travel to the White House and Carnegie Hall to share her work on some of the country’s most prestigious stages. She will also receive a $5,000 award to support her literary endeavors.
Sofia’s success showcases the importance of creative expression and the vibrant arts culture here at Rancho Solano, and we look forward to supporting her on this exciting journey as a National Student Poet.
